Sassyk Fm

Period:
Proterozoic

Age Interval:
Ediacaran (Edi?ss), MS

Province:
East Tajik (Central Pamir)

Type Locality and Naming

This is the lowermost formation in the Muzkol Gr

Synonym: Sasykskaya suite, Сасыrкская свита, Sasyk Fm

Reference section:

Lithology and Thickness

Composed of biotite, amphibole-biotite, and scapolite-epidote gneisses, migmatites, granitic, disten, cordierite, and andalusite crystalline schists, and marbles. The incomplete thickness of the suite is 1300 m. The Rutte (2017) start column indicates the thickness as <500 m.

The Sassyk Fm comprises banded, locally migmatitic gneisses cut by granitic dykes that make up 10–40% of the rock volume.

Lithology Pattern:
Gneiss

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The schematic strat column indicates this as the lowest formation

Upper contact

The schematic strat column indicates the upper contact as Beleutin Fm

Regional extent

It is widespread in the Central Pamir. In the Muskol dome, Rutte et al., 2017 included the Sassyk Fm into the Sarylshilin Fm, as it is lithologically and structurally identical with the latter.
